The Korea Investment Corporation (KIC) held on October 7 the second KIC ESG Day with local institutional investors at its Seoul headquarters.

The Investment Strategy Division of the sovereign wealth fund presented on global ESG investment trends and KIC’s responsible investment policies. Claudia Wearmouth, director and co-head of Responsible Investment at BMO Global Asset Management, spoke about ESG’s contribution to investment returns and shared case studies on global pension funds.

Participants exchanged views on ESG implementation and the current status as well as prospects of global ESG investments, which have been rapidly growing since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

KIC also presented a new plan for expanding ESG investments.

“ESG has become an irreversible global trend – one that requires the active participation of domestic institutional investors,” said KIC CEO Heenam Choi. “KIC plans to strengthen their exchange of ESG investment information and increase cooperation with leading overseas institutions through ESG Day, growing it into an international event.”

Having established its stewardship principles in 2018, KIC is pursuing ESG integration and remains committed to boosting responsible investments and returns. KIC plans tol pursue investment strategies in line with Korea’s Green New Deal, strengthening its analytical capabilities, building a portfolio of selected ESG companies and continuing to make strides in global ESG strategic fund management.  (Reporting by Jinwon Lee)
